The Broken Window

Keeping with the theme of abandoned buildings, I took this shot in a derelict school just up the road from where I live – Petone College. It is a real shame that the school is no longer used, particularly as it is in an otherwise nice neighbourhood.  The college has been empty since 2002, as a result of falling student numbers, but its fate is uncertain because of disputes over land ownership …

What caught my attention was the single window out of alignment with all the others.  It was very high up on the side of one of the buildings, and as I didn’t have a ladder handy!, I transformed the image to remove the perspective.

    Each window pane looks like a painting. All together it’s like a stained glass composition. Lovely.

    I like the “mad geometry” here, but what I find stunning is the color!
